She’s so Beautiful that I Think I’m Not

For a very long time, I have believed beauty to be subjective
I mean, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” right? Or am I wrong?
For I’ve seen people who are beautiful in the eyes of every beholder
They’re just perfect in every way;
A perfect face
A perfect body
Healthy, long hair
Clear skin
Sharp brain
And to top it all, “excess money”
When you meet such people, what naturally happens to you?
Well, as for me, I literally freeze
And I thought it was fine to be startled at how beautiful a person is until I realized that I associated the “freeze” with “she’s way better than me”
So, I find myself wanting to be like her
I change my wardrobe
I change my skin tone
I change the REAL ME
To fit into a box of delusion that if I want to be as pretty as her, I have to be like her
So the real me begins to fade, and I don’t even realize it
“A little bit of dark knuckles is fine as long as I’m light-skinned
A little bit of selling my dignity is fine as long as I spend like her”
And so, I prostitute my body and my dignity
Gradually, this girl loses her true identity
Not what people know her to be
but what she knows herself to be
“I” here is not necessarily me
It’s that girl who thinks, “She’s so beautiful, and I’m not”
It’s that girl who thinks, “Fair is beautiful, dark is not”
It’s that girl who thinks, “God is unfair”
But He’s not
The only person who’s unfair is YOU
Unfair to yourself
Unfair to your skin
Why is your beauty attached to hers?
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL
Because He says you are
You are fearfully and wonderfully made
It’s time to return to the real YOU
The YOU that should Yearn to Overcome the Unchanged
The unchanged narrative that you need to be like her to be beautiful
The unchanged narrative that beauty is defined by your skin tone
I am beautiful, I know I am
You are beautiful, do you know you are?
#self esteem
#love yourself
#what does god say about me?
#you are beautiful
