BURDENED BY BEING
Pen on Paper I experienced a deep emotional and psychological burnout. It wasn’t something people could see, but it changed everything for me. I remember sitting in the studio—physically fine, but creatively paralyzed. Something inside had shut down. That’s when I began to truly understand how the weight of the mind can override the strength of the body. Burnout isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s a quiet capsizing. ‎ ‎This drawing comes from that space. It’s built around a figure that is anatomically bold—flexible, lean, blooming with physiological power. But that strength is part of the irony. Even in full bloom, he collapses under the weight of a mind that doesn’t regard his physical density. The posture is extreme—yes—but real. I referenced it faithfully, even felt it in my own body. And yet it becomes something more than just physical. It becomes metaphor. ‎ ‎This piece is about that burden. About the silent things that leave marks in our posture, our creativity, our lives. Sometimes it’s guilt—for misfortunes that were never really yours. Sometimes it’s the feeling that your therapist is making your life choices. Sometimes your career is going well, but a part of you feels slowly faded. And sometimes it’s just pain—non-negotiable pain that doesn’t ask permission to live in your mind. ‎ ‎But through all of that, this work also holds something nostalgic. It reconnects me to the way I first drew—through bold anatomy and figures that pushed physical limits. There’s something sacred in that memory. Drawing this way again felt like a return to the self—raw, honest, and strangely familiar. ‎ ‎So yes, it’s a drawing. But it’s also a confrontation. An exhale. A visual embodiment of something I couldn’t say aloud. This is my attempt to make the invisible visible. To give form to what was felt but unseen. And maybe—just maybe—to take another small and bold step toward healing.
