startled was i by the sight before me.Goosebumps. Butterflies.
A sudden shiver down my spine.
Ahmadu. A boy forgotten.
Left outside with no shelter, No home, No food, No education.
The rain becomes his blanket, Or perhaps the scorching sun. Or the cruel breeze And the cold that kisses his skin When the world has closed its eyes.
Yet, just like Kabiru, He is a child.
A child who deserves love. A child who deserves support. A child who deserves happiness.
So tell me, What makes Kabiru deserving Of the comfort he calls home, While Ahmadu must negotiate with the streets Just to survive another day?
Are their dreams not made of the same sky? Does one child's laughter Mean less than another's tears?
I am not here to beg for power, But to remind the kings Of the people's hunger. To call upon the leaders, To awaken the hearts of those in authority.
Do not forget the Ahmadu's.
Do not look away from their suffering. Do not let their silence Become the world's excuse.
For I am a vessel, Carrying the voices of children Silenced by struggles, Children whose tears have dried Before anyone cared to notice.
And I am here, Not merely to speak of their pain, But to wipe away the tears They were forced to swallow.
Because every child deserves a chance. Every child deserves a future. And no child should have to suffer Just to prove they deserve to live.
