What is addiction? According to Google, it is a medical condition that causes a compulsive need to use a substance or repeat a behavior despite harmful consequences. Hmm... is that so? Defining addiction strictly that way might actually blind you to the real truth. It’s the reason why our constant reach for our phones every morning feels completely "normal"—but does that actually make it normal? Having cereal every morning sounds harmless, until it turns into: "I can't survive without having cereal every morning; I love it too much." Is eating cereal bad? No, never. But addiction often starts from the very little things you feel you can’t do without—from the daily habit of needing to read a book, to the ritual of not being able to eat comfortably without watching a movie. Little habits form an addiction. What am I trying to say? The world has moved past the idea that only hard substances make you an addict. Addiction can now be as subtle as needing a specific touch or routine just to drift off into a deep sleep. Addiction can be anything you do repeatedly. It doesn't always resolve into negativity—there are positive addictions too. Know this and know peace. But the most important thing is to watch your actions, because habits always start sweet at first... until you suddenly realize you can't stop. Don't be deceived. Get your mind right.
