The Beholder
Beauty does not announce itself. It waits. Quiet as breath on glass, it waits for the eye willing to stay. Because it is not the face that is beautiful, but the gaze that lingers without hunger, the hands that do not bruise what they admire, the love that knows how to look without trying to own. Some eyes come polished with tenderness. Others arrive carrying storms. Both will call what they see beautiful, yet one will water it, the other will set it on fire. There are beauties that heal and beauties that deceive— roses grown beside thorns, mirrors that flatter and fracture in the same breath. Love, too, is divided this way: the kind that softens your name in its mouth, and the kind that sharpens it. Both swear they adore you. Only one leaves you whole. Still, there is serendipity in being seen at all— in crossing the path of an eye that understands your light and your shadow, and calls them both worthy. So yes, beauty lives in the beholder. But what survives depends on the kind of love looking back.
