MEMOIRS OF A PILGRIM I
The Lord hath done me a great deed; I’ll sing Him worship.
The Lord hath resisted me not; I’ll remain in awe of Him.
He hath not given me gold when I asked, for the pride of life would end me.
Nor hath He satisfied my hedonistic spirit, lest I be ruined.
He hath preserved me when I saw it not,
And halted the wickedness of my heart with His love.
He hath called me His own, even while I stank.
The Lord is so full of kindness.
His love is surely the best over life.
I glory in the experience of His faithful love;
I glory in the worship of Him.
Though my frame cramps, I will worship still.
With breath slowly escaping my lungs, I’ll sing of His goodness.
His righteous love is refreshing wine to my soul.
Even death hath no peace like Him.
I’ll lie in my ailing bed and behold the Lord’s goodness.
I’ll consider not my pain, but trust in Him.
I’ll see for myself, while my sight dims, His goodness in silent times.
In the days of my loneliness, I will embrace the Lord.
I will lavish not in loneliness, but bask in His abundance.
The presence of the Lord will be my bread when I am hungry.
His satisfying breath quenches my thirst.
And His outstretched hands, my cradle.
I will see the sights of the Lord even when my eyes are plucked out.
I’ll stand before all men and say: The Lord God is my sustainer.
He has kept His servant in love and has established her from turmoil.
I’ll raise my face to You because You uplift me;
I will hide not my face.
I will tremble before You in righteous fear.
I’ll love You with mighty love.
Your presence indeed is a safe haven.
Your loving-kindness is perfect eternity.
You are the sole lover of my anxious soul
I glory,
Oh, I glory,
For in my loss, Your love yet found me!
