A FAMILIAR FEELING
Hit me Hit me hard and softly Inflict pain But do not break skin My heart leaps into my throat With every jarring hit That’s all I know That’s all I’ve experienced That’s all I’ve been accustomed to Spare me the words Spare me the tears Spare me the theatrics It’s been an hour An hour since I’ve been mentally distraught I know you’ll be coming Any minute now To coddle and pacify me To spew honey coated lies To reiterate that It’ll never happen again Just for it To happen yet again Frankly I’m exhausted Is this what my life has become?
