Face up, with my eyes towards the evening sky, One with the famed haunt of all time, The question of tomorrow, Elusive, like a veiled spectral, Invisible cloak spread on walking air, Infinite time, infinite space, As a door to otherwhere, Where time loops on itself, As a question twice asked and never answered, Or else, one-half of the memory coin We walked forward and floated in reverse, Our shadows looking back like rebellious mirror images, Like shoes walking without feet, Like clouds without rain Face up, with my eyes toward the evening sky, And I wished once upon a dream, Like a shooting star flung into the future, On the brink of blooming nothings, Acres of dandelions spread in very direction As far as the eye can see; Every direction, extending far into infinity, A place for a dimension, Portals and gates into forever roads We walked forward and floated in reverse, Our shadows looking back like rebellious mirror images, Like shoes walking without feet, Like clouds without rain Branches, spinoffs, devolutions into dreams, Drunken states like half-sleep, Swearing allegiance to wilderness cities, Like roaming winds, like wandering skins, Like the beginnings of alternate worlds, Where all things exist as one, None before the other, None after the other, One eternal timeline stretching Far beyond our mortal sight Did we stumble in? Did we find it? How did we know? When it knew us as we knew it, As the first fall, scene of the first crime, Plunging us into futures not made for us, Like walking into a room not yet built, Standing on grounds not yet set, Learning for the first time that we need not breathe, For after we’ve gone in all directions, We turn to head back home We walked forward and floated in reverse, Our shadows looking back like rebellious mirror images, Like shoes walking without feet, Like clouds without rain Like the elusive tomorrow
