The Unseen
I watched her complain,
like I don’t know ball,
like I don’t know what it feels like
to be unseen.
To live in the shadow of everyone around,
ashamed of my skin, my body,
my talents, my entire self.
Lost in the chase to be noticed.
Putting on a facade
everything but me.
Trust me, I know.
I know what it means to be unseen
by the one you love.
The one you gave everything to,
who walks right past you
like your breath is invisible.
I know what it feels like
to live like you don’t exist.
Only to be noticed
by those who want to take
never give.
To be seen by predators,
by the bike man with the wandering eyes,
by the so-called sophisticated
who want everything but “me”.
To have friends
who take until you’re empty,
parents who never see
your worth
yeah, I know that too.
And worst of all,
to be unseen by myself.
To look in the mirror
and only see the fake version I built
just to survive.
The delusion.
The pretend strength.
The smile that hides a scream.
Yes.
I know what it feels like.
I am the unseen.
In a world that only sees
what seems.
