Girl in the mirror

The first touch of sunlight comes as a shock to my system,
Hushed darkness and silence have become my familiarities, screams and tears my capacities.
Her round face is as I remember, the dimple in her chin as deep and “odd” as it were.
She runs a hurried hand over her newly cropped hair, blinking at me like I am responsible. The black T-shirt she has on slowly shrugs off her body like wrinkled paper.
The girl in the mirror frowns, her body is as she left it. Slenderness and disproportionality.
I realize my moments of darkness and nothingness will come again and perhaps even loom over my existence quite longer.
She touches the spots on her cheeks, those round cheeks that once held a beautiful smile, probably enough to get one compliment at least when she still used it at ease.
Her hands slide down to her neck, the veins she cannot hide breaking out of her skin.
The girl in the mirror sighs, her frown shifting to something glassy and fragile as she runs her own fingers down to the collarbones poking out of her body. The body she had begged to grow features other girls carried with grace.
Her hands stayed a bit longer there, the joke that they were deep enough to hold Mia’s cup of tea causing the glass in her eyes to shatter, the shards running down her cheeks — — those round cheeks.
She moved on to her chest, body trembling on another memory before rushing over to her stomach which was quite the only thing that wasn’t small, that held more burgers and pizza slices than she could remember.
The black cloth was in her hand again, she shrugged it on and inhaled shakily like the whole world had collapsed on her shoulders. Those slender shoulders.
With another black material, the one she had hid me with, the girl in the mirror banished the light again. Covering my existence like a secret and I returned with hesitation, the girl in the mirror all I could see.
